In the 1940s, Helen Duncan toured the country as a spiritual medium. At packed seances she summoned up spirits in front of an assembled audience.
 
Exposed as a fake, she was charged under the 1711 Witchcraft Act and thrown into Holloway, making her the last person to be convicted under this law.
 
But her incarceration had far more to do with wartime secrecy than her own sorcery.
